The Institute for Urban Policy Research is seeking an energetic and inquisitive Ph.D. student with an interest in urban policy. Students are welcome in any of the disciplines offered by the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences.

* The GIS, Criminology, and Public Affairs programs require incoming Ph.D. students to have a Master’s degree.

About the Institute

The Institute for Urban Policy Research works in areas of ResearchEducation, and Tecnical Assistance. We work with large and small non-profits, as well as state and local governments on issues that affect the quality of life in our communities. Our work includes projects funded by such organizations as the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Texas Department of Health and Human Services, and many private and corporate sponsors. Graduate Research Assistants with the Institute engage on one or more of these projects throughout their tenure, gaining valuable experience in project proposal, design, management, and execution.

Qualifications

The Institute is seeking a highly qualified and motivated self-starter.

  • Admission to a Ph.D. program in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences.
  • Solid background in quantitative research methods.
  • Familiarity with one of the following quantitative research tools:
    • Stata,
    • R, or
    • SPSS
  • Familiarity with fundamental data management techniques.
